The most common template sizes for postcard printing include: mini
card, 2.75x4.25; regular postcard, 4x6 or 4.25x6; half page
postcard, 4.25x11; large postcard, 6x9; full page postcard, 8.5x11;
legal postcard, 8.5x14; tabloid postcard, 11x17.
Some of the templates that you find with online postcard printing
companies will not contain any designs; they are simply application
specific files. They will include predefined guidelines and
specifications for bleed, safety and trimming, which are defined
below.
Bleed is the extra 1/4", which is 1/8" on each side, that is added
to the final size to accommodate the text or images that run over
the edge or "bleed" of the postcard. For postcards that contain
borders, all borders must be 1/4" on each side of the artwork, plus
an additional 1/8" bleed on each side. This ensures proper cutting
and will give your artwork a symmetrical appearance.
The trim is the final, cut size of the finished product. Safety is
the 1/8" (at least) from the final trim size. You should not put any
important images or text beyond the safety or it may get cut off
when the finished piece is trimmed.
